Daly Waters NT population 18, was teeming with grey nomads, young Contikis and two flying Nabateans. At Australia's first international airport we were met by two angels in disguise Lorna and Keith ( see photo below) who ran us into the pub. Jabi had a palatial hangar all to itself and we thought our little cabin was quite palatial too ( see below). The highlight of the stay was barra and beef BBQ and nightly entertainment by Col and Chilli. The barra was wild, caught fresh from Gulf of Carpentaria - very nice!
Always when we refuel Jabi we use a ladder. But not in Daly Waters. Our refueller George gets out his ute, loads the fuel in jerry cans in a trailer, backs her up and George and the trusty pilot stand in the trailer, crank up the hand pump and before you know it Jabi is full of fuel. (Photos will be available when we get back).
After a smooth takeoff we circled the pub for one last farewell and set off for Kununurra with a healthy tail wind at our back. Average ground speed of 138 knots or 250 kph. Nice.
Tonight after some shopping at Kununnura Coles we are firing up the barbie outside the cabin and with a nice glass of Kiwi white we'll reflect on how blessed we are to be having this great adventure. For the next two days we are handing over to some local tour companies. Tomorrow we are off to cruise Lake Argyle, Durack homestead and the Ord River and Thursday someone else is flying us for a walk around the Bungle Bungles. It's 4.30 pm local time and a chilly winter 32.5 C degrees... yes, you read that correctly.
Ongoing thanks to our SAR WATCHERS Ranthir and Kate.
