In Port Hedland we were impressed with the scale of the Port loading Iron Ore from the Pilbara. We took in the sites on the bus with the locals. While we were too early for the tidal stairway to the moon, we enjoyed the night skies and saw the extreme tides.
Jabi took us over the Hammersley Ranges and Fortescue iron ore mines - a vast rugged redness. We took a quick refuelling and lunch stop at Newman and arrived in Meekatharra, a small town clinging to the desert providing services to passers-by like us and the miners. Apparently Malcolm Fraser quipped it was the airport at the end of the earth - a bit harsh but.....
We woke this morning to some gentle rain and walked the local Discovery trail and that, dear friends is Meekatharra, or Meeka as we locals call it!
Tomorrow we head to Kalgoorlie for GOLD!
